3 Reasons You Should Book a Family Photo Session in 2025
"The days are long, but the years are short." If you've been a parent for any length of time, you know just how true that saying is. Our kids grow up and change in the blink of an eye. Life moves so fast, and before we know it, another year has flown by. That’s why now is the perfect time to consider the reasons you should have a family photo session in 2025. It’s easy to put off those family photos, thinking, We’ll do it next year. But then next year turns into the year after that… and suddenly, you realize it’s been way too long since you had photos of your whole family together.
That’s why professional family photos aren't just nice to have. They’re a way to freeze time, to hold onto your season of life before it slips away. And while phone snapshots are great, but they don’t replace the magic of a professional session, where everyone is in the frame, relaxed and happy, and looking their best.
So, if family photos have been on your someday list, here are three reasons why 2025 is the year to finally make them happen.
The number one reason to do a family photo session this year: because your kids are growing way too fast!
One day, you’re rocking them to sleep, and the next, they’re asking for the car keys. (And if you haven’t reached that season yet, you will!) It’s the bittersweet reality of parenting: no matter how much we might want to slow things down, our kids just keep on growing and changing.
Family photos let you pause time for a moment. They capture your kids as they are right now—their gap-toothed grins, their mischievous giggles, the way a little one buries her face in your leg when she’s feeling shy. Those are the details you’ll want to remember when your kids have grown out of these stages. So the absolute best reason to have a family photo session in 2025 is because these moments won’t wait, but photos help you preserve them.
Every season of life has its own sweet moments, and a family session lets you bottle up these little details. From the way your toddler’s little hand fits inside yours, to the way your big kid squeezes you as hard as he can during a hug, childhood is full of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments. A family session captures those fleeting details. The moments that matter most aren’t posed or planned—they’re the ones that happen naturally, and a family session can help you hold on to those memories forever.
And let’s be real—there will never be a “perfect” time to schedule family photos. But there will always be a time when you’re grateful you did!
Reason #2 to do family photos in 2025: because you deserve to be in the photos too
If your camera roll is full of pictures of your kids but hardly any of you with them, you’re not alone. Most parents—especially moms—are the ones taking the pictures. But one day, when your kids look back on their childhood, they won’t just want to see photos of themselves. They’ll want to see you, too. So make sure the person who normally has the camera in their hands gets in front of it, too!
I had a moment recently that was a wake-up call about this very thing. I was putting together a slideshow for my senior’s high school graduation, sorting through years of family pictures, when I realized that I had just one picture of the two of us together since she was a toddler. One. That was it. That's when I realized that I needed to let go of my dislike of being photographed (yes, even though I'm a photographer I don't like having my own picture taken!) and make sure I'm getting in the frame with my kids so I have those photos of me with my kids to look back on.
I get it--we think I’ll jump in next time or I don’t love how I look right now. But time doesn’t wait. And while we might be the ones booking the photo session, these pictures aren’t just for us. They’re for our kids. So that when they look at their photos, whether it’s reviewing the year’s collection or glancing back on them years from now, they'll have memories of you to look back on, too. And you can make sure that happens by scheduling a family photo session in 2025.
And seeing family photos makes a difference for your kids
Research backs up the importance of family photos. It's been shown that when kids see family photos and photos of themselves displayed, they have higher self-esteem and a stronger sense of belonging. Seeing those pictures on the wall tells them, This is my family. This is where I belong. And that’s a powerful thing.
You'll never regret having family photos
The third reason to have family photos taken in 2025: because you'll never regret having those photos. Have you ever heard someone say, I wish I hadn’t taken family photos? Of course not. But it's so easy to regret not getting them.
Every season of life is worth remembering. Whether you have a brand-new baby, energetic preschoolers, blossoming elementary-age kids, or teenagers who roll their eyes at the idea of family pictures, this stage of your life is just as meaningful as the ones that came before—and the ones that will come after.
Each season with your kids holds its own fleeting moments, challenges, and joys. Whether you're cradling a newborn, marveling at tiny fingers and sleepy yawns, or chasing after a giggling toddler who refuses to sit still, these days are filled with little details you'll want to hold onto. Maybe your kids are in that sweet elementary stage, losing their first teeth and discovering new interests, or perhaps you're navigating the teenage years, where eye rolls and reluctant smiles still give way to real, meaningful connections. No matter where you are, this stage of life is just as meaningful as the ones that came before—and the ones that will come after. These moments, big and small, are the ones that shape your family's story, and they deserve to be captured and cherished.
And the best part? Family photos aren’t just about the final images. A great family photo session is an experience, where the laughter, the little moments in between shots, and the way your family interacts when you’re just being yourselves are captured in photos so you can look back and remember just what your family was like in that season of life. A session isn’t just about getting a few frame-worthy pictures; it’s also about celebrating your family as you are right now.
You’re already thinking about it, so let's make it happen!
You’re here, reading this post, which means family photos are on your mind. So why not take the next step?
Because here’s the thing: 2025 is going to fly by, just like every year before it. And a year from now, you’ll either have a beautiful collection of images that make you smile every time you see them… or you’ll be telling yourself maybe next year...again.
So let’s make this the year you finally say yes to family photos. Yes to capturing your kids as they are right now. Yes to getting in the frame. And yes to memories you’ll cherish forever!
